Thanks to some beverage scientists we now have a middle ground. A drink that gives us the feel of sipping casually on a beer but with the flavor profile of a Margarita. What is the magical concoction?

This sweet, salty, boozy cocktail started taking the world by storm. In fact, now the Margarita is one of, if not the most, popular cocktails in the world. This was keeping Anheuser-Busch InBev executives up at night in the early 2000s.

A common macro beer like a Bud Light is five percent alcohol or lower. The average alcohol percentage for wine is 12 percent. Tequila, the base alcohol in a margarita, is routinely 40 percent alcohol.

Line up for Lime-A-Rita! Take a classic margarita, add some fun, and you'll end up with Lime-A-Rita. The recipe is open the can. Or, if you are feeling fancy, pour it over ice in a margarita glass. #HAVEARITA

Yesterday, after a long day of working outside in the sun, I had a thirst for a margarita. However, I honestly didn't feel like buying a bottle of tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and whatever else you need for a good margarita. At the liquor store, I went to grab a Bud Light Lime-a-rita. Just one, as they are loaded with calories. But then I noticed to the left was a 6 pack of Mike's Classic Margarita bottles. Hmmm....

When it comes to taste, there really isn't a whole lot of difference. Both are sweet and taste a lot like a margarita. The Lime-A-Rita packs more of a punch with an 8% alcohol content. Classic Mike's is just over 5%.

So in summary, it's really a draw and comes down to if you prefer a bottle or a can. Each will be refreshing on a summer day, just be careful with those little lime-a-rita cans because they can sneak up on you.

In 2012, Anheuser-Busch introduced Bud Light Lime Ritas, a line of 8% alcohol flavored malt beverages available in eight-ounce and 25-ounce cans. According to plaintiffs in Browning, et al., v. Anheuser-Busch, despite names like "Lime-a-Rita" and "Straw-ber-Rita" -- and advertising that touts its "classic margarita flavor"-- the beverages contain no tequila, liquor or wine, "just flavored beers that taste like margaritas, mojitos or wines."

Scoop onion into a small strainer and rinse under cold water. Shake off excess water and transfer to bowl, along with chipotle chilies, tomato, cilantro (save a little for garnish if you wish), and about 2/3 bacon. (If guacamole isn't being served right away, don't add bacon until just before serving, because it loses crispness as it sits in guacamole.) Gently stir to combine all ingredients. Taste and season with salt (usually about teaspoon) and enough lime juice to add a little sparkle.

"By using the existing strength we have with female drinkers, we are poised to exclusively speak to women and bring more margarita moments to their lives," said Selena Kalvaria, Senior Director for Lime-A-Rita. "We did our homework to understand the special connection female drinkers have with margaritas, and uncovered insights on the role that Lime-A-Rita plays in bringing women together. Our brand provides a variety of delicious, fun, and flavorful drinks that allow her to enjoy spontaneous moments with friends."

The national campaign, Make it a Margarita Moment, features a series of vignettes, titled "Romantic Face," "Brazilian," "Rooftop" and "Disco," that showcase the real conversations women have when they get together and the role Lime-A-Rita plays in fostering those margarita moments. The campaign will include new female-centric TV and digital ads, as well as social, retail and experiential components.

The creative campaign was developed by a female team from FCB Chicago, and directed by Hey Wonderful's Tricia Brock, whose credits include cable TV hits such as Girls and Orange is the New Black. "It is a privilege to partner with a brand that is truly committed to finding more relevant ways to connect with women," said Melanie Hellenga, SVP, Group Management Director at FCB Chicago. "We wanted to tap into real moments, when women get together with their friends, drink margaritas, let loose, and go where the conversation takes them."

Lime-A-Rita will also launch five new additions this spring to keep the product portfolio fresh with on-trend flavors that give our consumers the variety they are looking for. Additions to the core line include Grape-A-Rita, while Peach-A-Rita will be available through August as Lime-A-Rita's new summer seasonal. The brand will also be launching Orange-A-Rita regionally in select markets. Splash by Lime-A-Rita, a refreshing take on the traditional margarita with a lower alcohol by volume, will also add new flavors including Pine-Apple-Rita Splash nationally and a limited-edition flavor, Coco-Nut-Rita Splash, which will be available in a special variety pack starting in April.

As part of the continued innovation from world-class brewmasters from the legacy of America's most-popular beers, Anheuser-Busch launched Lime-A-Rita in 2012. The brand became the second-best selling new product launch that year, with Straw-Ber-Rita becoming the largest share gainer in the beer industry in 2013. New flavors and new product offerings are the cornerstone of Lime-A-Rita and Splash by Lime-A-Rita and the brand is consistently adding new offerings to the portfolio. Ace Metrix awarded Lime-A-Rita the title of 2014 Brand of the Year for the Beer and the Spirits, Malt Beverages and Wine categories. In 2017, Lime-A-Rita became the first in the Anheuser-Busch InBev portfolio to explicitly target women with the "Make it a Margarita Moment" campaign. For more information, visit www.limearita.com.

This time I'm trying out a Peach-A-Rita, one of several pre-made margarita flavors from Bud Lite's Lime-A-Rita line. I have had the original Lime-A-Rita in the past and liked is so I couldn't pass up the peach. Plus the can is pretty and you know I'm a sucker for that!

While no one would mistake this cocktail as a fresh fruit margarita from a fancy bar, it has it's own place in the "cocktail kingdom." This ready-to-drink cocktail is easy to drink, easy to find and easy to buy in qualities large enough for a crowd.

This margarita is on the sweeter side which I like. If I was planning to drink just one, I'd venture to say it is the perfect amount of sweet. I wonder though if it would be too sweet after a few of them. BRB, I'm going to test this theory for us...

The settlement benefits consumers who purchased any Ritas products (margarita products, spritzers and more) between Jan. 1, 2018, and July 19, 2022. A full list of included products is available on the settlement website. 041b061a72
